Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising (abbreviated as G&H or GnH) is the title of an MMORPG in development by Perpetual Entertainment that was announced on March 9, 2005. The game is set in the world of ancient Rome, and combines historical elements and enemies (Etruscans, Faliscans, etc.) with mythological ones (Cyclops, Gorgons, etc.). Players select era-appropriate classes including Soldiers, Gladiators and Mystics, each of whom can align themselves with an Olympian God (Jupiter, Mars, etc.)

The game was originally slated for release in Q4 of 2005 but has been pushed back and is now due for launch sometime in 2007. The game has been in closed beta since October of 2006. Sony Online Entertainment was named as the publisher and distributer for the game in North America, but has no hand in the development of the game.

[edit] Backstory

A race of ancient demi-gods who are also a powerful enemy of the Olympian gods has returned from exile and is seeking vengeance. This enemy has been kidnapping all of Rome's heroes and simultaneously inciting the beasts, creatures, and rival cultures of Hesperia Magna (Greek for "the Great Western Land," referring to what we know today as the Italian peninsula) to open hostilities against the young republic. It is Rome's darkest hour. Players embark on an epic quest to defeat this enemy and secure the future of the fledgling Roman republic.
